began to realize that as the Koi were always swimming in the same
direction that the muscles on the one side of the Koi were
developing more than the other as the Koi tended to use those
muscles more - so the idea of being able to reverse the direction
of the water flowing back into the pond from the filtration system
came about and many hobbyists have since that time incorporated
something similar to what is now being produced as a ready made
off the shelf piece of equipment .. and we are pleased to be able
to offer these to our customers ....
The actual one shown in the drawing
is made from 50mm OD European size pressure pipe, and shows how
the water 'splits' at the 'Y' joint (something that does not seem
to be available in Either Imperial or British Metric sizes - which
is baffling) but none the less - following this 'Y' joint the
water is directed down the return side that is being used and of
course controlled with the ball valves .. the opposite side ball
valve will of course be completely closed ensuring that the return
water is only directed down the side that is open fully....
Of course this assembly would
normally be fitted within the filtration house, or chamber and the
pipe work from each side of the ball valves would be extended to
the chosen position for your return pipes ... but of course
instead of running a single length of pipe for the return - you
would in fact be running two lengths, one for each side of the
Reverse Flow Return assembly ..
When is use of course it is just a
simple matter to reverse the flow direction in your pond by simply
switching off the system briefly and shutting the ball valve that
was open and opening the other one .. and that is all there is to
it ..
I am sure that many of you reading
this may wish to build in their own Reverse Flow Returns using
materials and parts that are readily available from their normal
supplier - however these ready made up assemblies are of course
available direct from us at a very realistic price and it is worth
noting that we also supply as standard the reducing bushes that
convert this 50mm pipe size down to the black 40mm solvent weld
pipe that so many Koi hobbyists choose to use - this means that it
would be a very simple matter to incorporate one, or more of these
Reverse Flow Return assemblies into the system you are perhaps
building or planning to build ..

piece, are only available in 50mm Metric PVC
