Typical working life - once the two parts are mixed together you
will have a maximum of 1/2 hour to use the product (at
10 -15 °C).
Koi-Kote™ is a chemically cured coating and its working life
decreases the warmer the temperature (and vice versa), it is
therefore advisable to keep it out of direct sunlight and use as
quickly as possible.
In bulk the material generates heat so putting it into a paint
tray for roller application will increase its longevity.
Over mixing will also introduce unnecessary heat and thus reduce
the workable life of the material.
Recommended application tools are available from us
Once mixed, divide the material into two or more containers and
get some help to put it on.
DO NOT SPLIT PACKS OR TRY TO THIN THE MATERIAL as this will result
in the coating being insufficiently cured.
Koi-Kote™ is a high specification solvent free epoxy coating,
which is also used in drinking water storage tanks, it is not a
simple paint and thus you will need to assess your particular
project before mixing any product.
Preparation between coats - If you are to exceed more than 72
hours between coats (at 10°C), it is recommended that you lightly
abrade the previous coat using a 40 grit sandpaper.
This will ensure that, as well as providing a key for the next
coat, it will also remove insects that may have landed and any
other high spots.
It is good practice, however that if the coating is hard enough to
lightly abrade, then this will ensure the best possible surface
for the final coat to be applied to.
