Preparation
Koi-Kote is a surface tolerant lining but as with all coatings the
better the surface preparation, the better the performance.
For Concrete the latency should be removed by mechanical abrasion.
For screeded ponds remove loose dust. The smoother the screed the
smoother the finish. Note: When using sharp sand render, only use
a float finish. When using fibres in render these should be burnt
off prior to application.
For GRP, the surface will require abrading.
Application - (Mixing)
Koi-Kote comes in pre-measured amounts; mix A & B until a
consistent colour is achieved; a power mixer is necessary to
achieve thorough mixing. Do not mix too fast or for too long as it
produces heat that will shorten its usable life.
Application - (Applying to
substrate)
Koi-Kote may be applied by brush or roller, in 2 coats
to achieve a Dry Film Thickness (DFT) of between 300 and 500
microns. Normally at 20-25°C, Koi-Kote will be touch dry in two
hours and the final coat may be applied. The pond may be refilled
when the 2nd coat is hard (cured). Temperature will affect the
cure time as A + B is a chemical reaction:
High temperature 20 - 25°C, short pot life - Low temperature 5 -
10°C, long pot life
When cured, wash with hot soapy water and rinse thoroughly prior
to introducing fish.

Question: |
How much do I need? |
|
Answer: |
1Kg Koi-Kote covers 2 square metres @ 400 microns |
| |
|
(i.e. two coats at 200 microns each) |
Example:
A pond of 20 square metres will require 10Kg of Koi-Kote
That is 5Kg base coat and 5kg top coat.
Therefore by rounding up these quantities to the nearest pack
size gives 6kg or 3 x 2kg each.
Therefore as a guide the amount of product required is as
follows:
3x 2kg base coat and 3 x 2kg top coat.
These figures are for guidance purposes only as every pond is
different.
Please ensure that allowances are made for rough/absorbent
pond surfaces and
remember to make an allowance for wastage.
