Symptoms |
|
Small, pure white, clearly-defined spots (about 1/4 - 1/2 dia..... of pinhead) appear on body AND finnage. (CAUTION: do not confuse with same-sized GREYISH-WHITE, blurred-edge spots appearing on finnage only - see No. 10 below). If untreated, spots slowly (6-24 hrs..) advance to cover whole body/finnage area. Fishes do not show same early sickliness as with disease 7 and may even continue feeding lightly. |
Disease |
| WHITE-SPOT DISEASE - caused by ciliated protozoan (Cryptocaryon irritans - S/W Ichthyophthirius multifilis - F/W). Caused by same condition as disease No.7 above + non - irradiated livefoods. |
Koi Ponds & Garden Ponds |
| Flush pond through slowly for 24/36 hrs. using POOLSHIELD as directed and treat with ALGIZIN P. Stop all feeding till spots disappear. |
| Alternative treatment: Treat pond water with Malacite and Formalin - use manufacturers recommneded dosage... be careful ... |
Prevention |
| Exactly the same comments apply as in disease 8. However, it should be stated here that most workers in the field of fish pathology (including the present author) believe that these protozoans are present in all bodies of water and in a resting state within most fishes but only become active when fishes are exposed to stress. |
