Treatment 4

Symptoms

Greyish-white film over the whole body surface of fish  Eventually if untreated (and if fish survives long enough untreated!) finnage deteriorates and shallow ulcers appear on body. Fish generally appears pallid, sickly and weak with no interest in food whatsoever.

Disease

BACTERIAL - caused by spindle shaped, flexible, rod-like Cytophga which are motile over fish's body with peculiar flowing or gliding motion - Gram negative.

Koi Ponds & Garden Ponds

Carry out a very slow, total water change by trickling a garden hose into the pond at the "high" side and letting the polluted water overflow onto the lawn at the "low" end. This should take 24 hrs. to complete and is continued until the water is crystal clear. Stop all feeding and run fountain/waterfall/aeration continuously at full power. Use MYXAZIN P as both a water treatment and topically. Commence feeding when symptoms subside.

Prevention

a) By regular usage of a good super-sensitive Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate test kits, so regulate the amount of feeding to ensure that free ammonia/nitrite NEVER appear in your aqua system. With correctly designed filtration system, ammonia, nitrite and nitrates should never be allowed to climb above minimal levels.
b) Never overfeed:
c) Never use "spoiled" foods:
d) Never use frozen sea foods, Daphnia, Tubifex etc., which have not been gamma-ray irradiated:
e) Always quarantine doubtful looking fish in MYXAZIN/P-treated water:
f) ALWAYS prevent vitamin deficiency in captive fishes by using VITAZIN.
To précis the above in a few words, what one is really saying is:- Disease in fishes, as in all creatures, is always an inevitable response to STRESS EXPOSURE. Stress in the aquatic enviroment can assume many forms, i.e. chemical (=pH, nitrogeneous toxins), physical (=temp., S.G., oxygen tension), biological (=poor feeding, vitamin deficiency, etc.), psychological (=aggression, clumsy handling). Avoid stress = no disease.

Please note:

If symptoms persist it may be necessary to contact a veterinarian for a prescription treatment.
