Treatment 12 |
Symptoms |
|
Sharply pointed 5-10mm spines sticking out of dorsal tissues. or may re-assemble a short piece of white cotton hanging from the dorsal fin or other areas of the body. |
Disease |
| ANCHOR-"WORM" - Lernea spp. crustacean parasite. These are normally found on newly imported Koi and need to be removed carefully either before or after treatment to kill them . From my own experience this parasite is not one that seems to bother the Japanese Koi breeders who do seem to allow them to colonise on their Koi stocks - but they normally try to remove them prior to shipping or selling the Koi. |
Koi Ponds & Garden Ponds |
| Remove with tweezers and treat wound with MYXAZIN P. STERAZIN P may help. |
| Alternative treatment: Use 'Dimlin' powder mixed with some pond water in a plastic bucket at the rate of 1 grm per ton (220 gallons) make sure all the powder has dissolved then pour round the perimeter of the pond in the same manner as previous treatments ... this treatment will turn the pond water cloudy for 24 hours or so.. Once the Anchor worm has been killed which will normally happen with 8 hours the infected koi can then be removed from the water and using a pair of tweezers the anchor worm can be removed taking care to remove the hooks which are embedded into the flesh.. then a small dab of a good topical dressing such as our 'Koi Doc' will ensure that no infection can enter the wound made by the anchor worm. |
Prevention |
| Maintain a much higher standard of aquasystem hygiene, paying particular attention to filter cleanliness and avoiding overfeeding. Always stir up filter-bed before siphoning off old aquarium water when carrying out a partial water changes. Never use non-irradiated seafoods, Daphnia, Tubifex, bloodworm, mosquito etc. |
Please note:If symptoms persist it may be necessary to contact a veterinarian for a prescription treatment. |
