The Smallest Size for a
vortex to be reasonably efficient is the 24" diameter .. below this
diameter the efficiency level declines dramatically.... although we
have to say that even a smaller one that sometimes comes as an
integral part of a filtration system, is far better than no vortex
at all....
Whilst on the subject of Vortex Systems, and although it is not
really a Primary Vortex, we are often asked 'How does a Biological
Vortex Work' ...
The Answer - because the lower section of the unit is a Vortex
the water continues to spiral as it enters this chamber from the
primary vortex - thus continuing to spin off any waste products and
debris which again settle to the bottom and into the bottom conical
area where, again by opening the 2" slide valve this waste is
'flushed' to waste ...
Also, because the top section of the Biological Vortex is
especially designed to hold the actual 'Filter Matting' it can build
up an extremely large and effective area - far larger than most
other filter systems - for the biomass to colonize within the filter
matting .. and because the top section covers a much larger area
than the actual vortex below, this biological area holds far more
matting than any other type of filter system....
We have now been using the 'Biological Vortex System's within our
own set-up for over 12 years - and until something much better, if
that is possible, comes onto the world market then we shall continue
to apply this system to our own ponds. (but has that time now
come with the introduction of the 'NeXus' ? ...
Below we show you a drawing of a Typical 'Vortex System' to give
you some idea how they all link together - only the ones shown in
these drawings are of the 'Round' variety which of course we do
still produce for our customers ..
