Elecro 900 Series Digital Heaters:

Trouble Shooting

Problem: Heater will not switch from Standby mode (yellow neon) to Heater On mode (red neon)

In most cases this will be the result of one of the following:

  1. The set point value of the digital controller has been achieved or is lower than the current displayed temperature. To confirm that the digital controller is calling for the unit to heat. see if there is an illuminated dot (5) above the word 'Out' on the digital display. If illuminated go to step

  2.  If not illuminated raise the set point to the value higher than that being displayed on the controller. Confirm whether the heater now switches to 'Heat On' mode.

The Flow Rate through the Heater needs to be confirmed to be sufficient. Switch off the circulating pump and unscrew the flow switch. Manually move the paddle of the flow switch to simulate water flow. If the heater switches to 'Heat On' mode release paddle immediately to ensure the unit does no overheat. Reinstall the flow switch and increase flow through the heater. Choked filters or blockages can cause reductions in flow.

If having performed the above tests the heater still is not operational the manual reset high limit stat needs to be checked. Isolate power to the heater and drop the front cover away from the control box. The High limit stat is located in the base of the control box. Press the red button in the centre of the stat (see diagram 1) if a positive 'click' is felt the stat has been reset. If the stat has tripped, it indicates that an overheat situation has occurred. This will need to be investigated.

Problem: Manual reset high limit thermostat has tripped.

Possible causes are:

  1. Air pockets forming in the tank of the Heater, in which case plumbing will need to be modified to ensure that the heater is purged of air during operation. Air purging can be enhanced by slightly raising the outlet port of the heater so that it operates on a small incline. i.e. water enters low and exits high.

  2. Weed/debris has built up around the heating element, preventing heat from effectively being transmitted to the flowing water. If this is the problem end fittings should be removed from the heater and the element cleaned.
