The small bubbles which are created with the air stones help to circulate the water around the tank more effectively than the larger bubbles created from the filter system.

Air bubbles in an aquarium can also provide a mesmerising effect, especially when the air stones are hidden away behind rocks and plants creating a cascade of bubbles, that's why there are now so many different types of air stones available on the market.

Air stones in the aquarium helps to accelerate oxygen replenishment and can also help release the build up of Carbon Dioxide.
